February 11th

Wednesday, February 11th

Dear Parents,

Here is a short update and some important dates to remember:
·         Our Valentine’s Day Party is tomorrow, Thursday the 12th. It is our last official Kohl party of the year. Please join us from 1:30 - 2:30.  Thank you to all of the parents who help make our parties possible!

·         There is no school for kids on Friday, February 13th and Monday, February 16th. The class comes back on Tuesday the 17th. Enjoy the long weekend.

·         Our parent/ teacher conferences are February 24th and 26th. An email about signing up was sent out by the office this week.  Please sign up, and if you have any questions or concerns please let me know. I look forward to meeting with each of you.

Writing:

Students are planning and drafting multi-paragraph persuasive/opinion pieces.  The class is doing a fantastic job. We hope to have our published work up in the hall for you to view during conferences.

Math

We started our Geometry Unit this week. Students are learning many new geometry vocabulary terms. Please review them with your child. This will be a huge help for this unit. Please don't forget to keep up with their multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction tables! The students and I went over the test they took last week on place value, adding, and subtracting.  I will return this test to you during our parent/teacher conference. The class did very well as a whole.

Science

Our matter and measurement unit has been full of many fun, hands-on activities.  Students are building their understanding of how we measure the three states of matter and how matter changes phase.

Reading

Our class is reading many short stories and non-fiction texts together. We are focusing on identifying details from the text to support student answers. Please take the time to review your child’s reading log to ensure they are thinking more deeply about the texts they are reading at home.  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Aisha Galt

Thursday, February 5th

Thursday, February 5th

Dear Parents,

First, I would like to thank all of the parents who joined us for our field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  We couldn’t do it without you!

Our class has earned a compliment celebration!  Once again, they voted to have a game hour, which will be tomorrow.  Students are allowed to bring games from home that they would like to play together. They can bring electronics.  These games will stay in students' backpacks at all times outside of our game hour.

I also want to remind everyone about our regular homework routine.  Some students seem to be having trouble completing and remembering their assignments.  Students receive a reading log and a mystery state on Monday, and they are due on Friday.  Please take a moment to look over and sign your child’s weekly reading log.  I assign math homework on Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays.  These assignments are due the next day.  In addition, students should be studying addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts on a regular basis.  Thank you for supporting your child!

We had a guest speaker, Mrs. Pam Kutchen, from Metro North Fire Rescue today.  She talked to our students about fire safety and the importance of practicing fire drills at home.  Your child will be coming home with a fire drill planning sheet. Please take some time to complete this activity and talk to your child about what they learned today.

Our Valentine party is next Thursday, February 12th from 1:30 to 2:30.  Please join us if you can. Thank you to all of the parents who have signed up to support the festivities.

If your child chooses to bring Valentine cards to school, they need to have one for each child in our class.  Valentines should be brought to school on February 12th.  Students should also bring a container to hold their Valentines.  Handmade cards are encouraged.  Here is a list of student names to help with this task.  Thank you for your continued support.

Hannah, Sebastian, Kai, Tanith, Jake, Destiny, Kenna, Thomas, Julia H., Megan, Ben, Riannon, Connor, Julia M., Eric, Olivia, Leah, Justin, Samantha, Amrita, Brooke, Deegan, Gwen, Noah, Jacob, and Daelan

I hope you all enjoy the warm weekend to come.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Aisha Galt
